What Does MMR Stand For?
MMR is an abbreviation for three diseases: Measles, Mumps and Rubella.
What is Measles?
Measles, or Rubeola, is an illness caused by a virus called Morbillivirus
. The illness is spread through
droplets from infected people. Symptoms of measles include fever, red eyes, cough and a rash. Bad cases of measles can

What is Mumps?

What Is An MMR Titer?
The MMR Titer is a blood test that checks if your immune to Measles, Mumps and Rubella. It measures your antibody levels to get a sense for whether your immune
system has the capability to respond to an infection with one of these diseases.
What is the procedure for getting an MMR Titer?
An MMR Titer is a laboratory test. First, you need to get an order from your doctor or medical provider to get an MMR Titer. Then, you go to a laboratory and get your blood drawn. Once that is done, it generally takes up to a week to get your MMR Titer results.
How do I get my MMR Titer Test results?
By law, the results of your MMR Titer have to be sent to the medical provider who ordered your test. You should contact your medical provider directly.
How long does it take to get MMR titer results back?
Once your blood is drawn, the results for the MMR titer typically comes back in 3-4 business days.
In most cases, the MMR titer results will be sent to your medical provider and, as a result, getting your results may
also depend on how fast your medical provider can get them to you.

Why does my job or school need an MMR titer test?
The MMR Titer is used as a measure of immunity to MMR. People who work in certain settings, such as hospitals or medical clinics, are at an increased risk for being exposed to Measles, Mumps and Rubella. As a result, many institutions want proof of a certain antibody level or vaccination for diseases such as Mumps, Measles and Rubella prior to stepping into those settings.
Will my health insurance pay for my MMR titer test?
It depends on the type of health insurance that you have. Some insurance plans will cover the MMR Titer but many will not. Additionally, in order to use your health insurance, you will have to find a medical provider who accepts your health insurance and can order the MMR Titer for you.
